Doncaster Driving School - Test advice

The Theory & Hazard Perception Test

You will be asked to answer 50 multiple choice questions, followed by a test of your hazard perception skills. You will need to pass both parts of the test at the same sitting to pass your theory test. You must answer 43 questions or more correctly in 40 minutes.

During the Hazard Perception test you are shown 14 video clips of various hazards. Click the mouse key for every hazard. Candidates can score up to five marks on each hazard and the test contains 15 scoreable hazards. The pass mark for this part of the test is 44 out of 75.

Your theory pass certificate is valid for 2 years. You must pass your practical test within this time or you will need to retake the theory test.

The Practical Test

You must be able to read a number plate at 20.5 metres (67feet) or 20metres (66feet) plates from 2001. The test will last approximately 40 minutes from start to finish. Your drive will take on a number of different roads and traffic conditions, and you will be asked to carry out one reversing manoeuver. The examiner will also ask you to complete an independant driving section and you may also be asked to perform a controlled stop. Two questions are asked of the mechanical nature of the vehicle starting with the words Show/Tell me.

An accumulation of driving faults may result in a fail. One Dangerous or Serious fault will result in failure. A high standard is now expected of learner drivers, you must be fully prepared.

Mock Tests

Pupil's may be given a mock test. This helps highlight areas which need improvement and gives you a valid insight into how the driving test is conducted
